Kids Yoga

Take action now that will support a child in this crucial stage of human development, and benefit them for a lifetime.

Yoga benefits children in all the layers of their being:

Physically - developing strong backs, upper and lower bodies, developing balance, coordination, and supporting digestion and expanding lung capacity.

Emotionally - children develop a sense of comfort and a vocabulary for the wide spectrum of emotions humans experience. They work to release emotions without the need talk about them. They develop gratitude and a clear understanding of self.

Mentally - this is not infantile silly yoga, with Whole Heart Yoga children are treated as the intelligent young people they are. With mindfulness and meditation techniques children are taught to harness the mind and have tools to calm they mind. They learn visualisation, various meditation techniques and expand their vocabulary. Done with lightness and joy, this perhaps has the biggest impact on kids.

Spiritually - the children are recognised as the divine energetic beings they are. They develop a sense of something other, something bigger - the seasons, the cycles of life, the universal consciousness that surrounds us.

Carolyn's 4-week yoga program met curriculum goals for us across several areas. And the kids just loved it - they were really engaged. I even had one boy thank me for putting on the sessions!

Yoga in schools

I teach effective, age-appropriate yoga in primary and secondary schools. This is best structured as a series of four weekly classes so the students can develop their skills and end the program being able to continue to use well-practiced techniques. A series of classes also means the students develop through the basic physical poses and are able to get into some of the more fun and tricky poses which they really enjoy.

That said, if all you have is a day to give students a yoga experience - let's do it!

"Our 10-year-old daughter attended Whole Heart Yoga in Term 1 and she always returns from class relaxed, happy and energised. She excitedly demonstrates new yoga poses she has learnt, and we’ve even started to meditate together using breathing techniques she’s practised during class!

In her words “yoga makes me feel calm, happy and good about myself”. I’m thrilled she will continue yoga classes next term in this warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where she can build her strength and balance and develop relaxation and self-care skills that will benefit her now and, in the years, to come."

"I feel like in my head there's more space now. Like it's turned off a bit. It feels so nice."

Kids yoga in the community

I am exploring how best to offer kids yoga in a way that suits families and children alongside the needs of my own family life.

During 2022, I am running two-day kids yoga school holiday programs. These run 9am -3:30 pm in Fairfield, Melbourne and are held on the Wednesday and Thursday of the second week of holidays. If you are interested, join my newsletter so you know when bookings open.

The next one runs 20-21 April and is a yogic immersion into the elements of the natural environment: earth, fire, water and wind.

“I use it to help me get to sleep sometimes, I use the breathing and the visualisation of visiting the ocean.”
Maddie, aged 8
